Shelly Campbell Marionette Inspired Shoot

Shelly said to me at the beginning of the year "I definitely want to shoot with you again, I'm getting a big tattoo done first and I have some really dark ideas for this shoot!" Shelly Campbell is a creative (check out her page she's an amazing portrait illustrator and takes on commissions) so I knew she'd want to be out there when it came to the whole styling and inspiration for the shoot. She's not one to want to take a typical portrait lets say...

Anyway after numerous texts, emails, Facebook messages, tweets and Pinterest shares Shelly had well and truly briefed me on the angle she was going for in her shoot. I'm writing this trying to summon up the category you put the shoot that Shelly wanted to do in... It's not Boudoir, though a little revealing, it's not a portfolio though portraying her in different guises... Hmmm... I think I'll have to think of one, hopefully before the end of this blog.

Ok, so Shelly had given me lots of reference material to visualise her ideas, so I had an idea of how I'd light her on the day and also how I'd work on the images in post process. She had make up requirements so we needed to enlist a really great make up artist to meet the challenge. I put Shelly in touch with Roseanna Veilin MUA. Shelly loved her worked so she was too was booked to work on the shoot.

Planning, I think is the key to a successful shoot, though on day there will always be things that inspire you to make different choices to those you thought you were going to make. That's half of the fun of photography for me I think...

So before and after taking 'the photo' as simple as it can look there might be an awful lot of time and effort invested in it from concept to conception... So I guess I'd say Shelly's shoot was a concept shoot.

It was amazing to work with such creative people as Shelly Campbell & Roseanna Veilin and I look forward to doing more creative work in the future.

Thank you ever so much for reading...
